Make
Schools Safer
School safety is of
great interest and concern throughout our nation, including
Wichita. Educators, parents, students and other concerned
citizens are asking, how can I help make schools safer? Here's
how you can help.
We need you to join the
Wichita Neighborhood School Watch Program. This program teams
watchful Wichitans with law enforcement and school personnel to
protect our children, their teachers and the schools
themselves.
What will you be asked
to do?
-
Be a watchful
neighbor to your local school.
-
Be alert for
suspicious signs.
-
Call law
enforcement when you see suspicious activity around your school.
-
Share this
information with other caring neighbors.
-
Know that
your neighborhood school is safer because of you.
Be a
Watchful Neighbor
-
BE ALERT to
unusual activity around your neighborhood school.
-
DETERMINE
the name of the school and location of the problem.
-
CALL
Emergency Communications 911
or
Wichita School Security 973-2100.
-
TELL
the
Emergency Communications Operator:
-
STAY ON THE LINE
to supply other details or to guide officers to the scene.
-
REMEMBER:
Do not hesitate to call police, sheriff or school security if you
feel something is wrong.
-
YOUR ACTION
may protect your school from financial loss.
Be
Alert for Suspicious Signs
-
Strangers
loitering around your school;
-
Unusual
noises like breaking glass, fighting or screaming;
-
Someone
trying to open doors or windows when school is closed;
-
A
person running away from the school, especially if carrying
something of value;
-
Someone
destroying school property;
-
If
you see anything suspicious, please call 911 immediately;
-
Even
if nothing is wrong, we will thank you for your alertness.
