P1225 ORGANIZATION OF THE SCHOOL DAY - MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS
BOARD POLICY:
The principal is responsible for developing the master schedule at each building. Minimal accreditation standards of the Kansas State Department of Education shall be followed in establishing secondary school time requirements.
Administrative Implemental Procedures:
Basis for organizing the school day:
1. High Schools
a. All high schools have a school day of 7 hours and 10 minutes.
b. High schools may offer early and/or late classes thus extending the school day.
c. The publication, Program of Studies, issued by the Department of Learning Services, will designate the course number, name, and credit of each course offered, and no other courses will be offered unless approved by the Chief Academic Officer.
2. Middle Schools
a. Although individual buildings may begin and end the school day at different times, all middle schools have a school day of 7 hours and 10 minutes.
b. The principal determines the structure of the school day. Teams may structure the block of time assigned to them in accordance with the curricular objectives.
c. Learning Services will publish and distribute a document describing the structure of middle school curriculum. The publication, Program of Studies, will designate the course number, name, and credit of each course offered, and no other courses will be offered unless approved by the Chief Academic Officer.
