P0500 SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
BOARD POLICY:
The Board is charged with the responsibility of appointing a qualified Superintendent of Schools. The Superintendent shall serve as the chief administrative officer of the school district.
Implemental Procedures:
1. The Board shall appoint a qualified Superintendent of Schools, who is not a member of the Board.
2. The term of the Superintendent of Schools shall begin the first of July and continue for not more than three years, subject to renewal, by KSA 72-8202(b) and the Superintendent’s contract.
3. The Board of Education delegates to the Superintendent of Schools the responsibilities of administering the school system and implementing the policies adopted by the Board of Education. These policies and Administrative Implemental Procedures (AIPs) shall constitute the Administrative Rules and Regulations governing the schools. The Superintendent is not authorized to take any action inconsistent with a decision of the Board of Education.
4. The Board of Education delegates to the Superintendent of Schools the responsibility for appointing a KSDE-licensed employee as the Board of Education’s designee(s) to hear pupil suspension or expulsion hearing pursuant to KSA 72-8901. 5. If a vacancy occurs in the office of the Superintendent, the Board shall promptly fill such vacancy.
6. The Superintendent designates a member of the administrative staff to act in his/her behalf when he/she is ill or out of the city. The Superintendent will keep the Board of Education informed as to who he/she designates from the administrative staff.
